ECWC Qtr Fin 2nd Leg - Dinamo Tbilisi 0 - 1 West Ham (1981)
With Chelsea and Arsenal heading to that part of the World soon.. reminds me of our game in Georgia... Anyone go? 80,000 there apparently - Remember lots of soldiers in uniform watching it and Pearson with a late winner IIRC

This is all the footage I could find - Looks like something from the 1940s!

I remember the home game of this tie. When I turned to my brother and said "We are being given a football lesson here." Some cunt behind me overheard and said "Well if you don't like it, fuck off!"

They were given a generous and deserved ovation as they left the pitch. At the following home game a message was read out expressing thanks for our sportsmanship from the Tblisi players and Manager..

I wondered if OI went. Did he fly?

Blimey couldn't have been many made that trip back in 81.

Was in the Chicken Run for the first leg. I think in all my years in going to The Boleyn I haven't seen us so played off the park. If I remember half the Tbilisi team played for their country.

Really? So what did this great Tbilisi win then to compare them to Barca?

Yeh, went the home game.
Great performance by them and rightly clapped off the pitch.
Think about 90 went out there?

Yep David Kipiani. I was at that home leg and this bloke was simply stunning on the night. He sadly died in 2001 but rightly has legendary status over there.

Stuart Pearson got us a little consolation with the goal out there but that Tbilisi team really did deserve the phrase "different gravy".

Kipiani resembled one of the Super Marios if I remeber correctly? He definitely played like one.

Little did we know back then that it was the end of any European / domestic trophies and here we are some 40 years later still waiting :-(

We weren't hugely out gunned in that first leg, it was a simple case of our mistakes and their excellent finishing.

4-1 flattered Tiblisi

Also to remembered we were a Division 2 outfit despited a number of top class players.
